    • Wash your training gear immediately after.

RULES FOR OUTSIDE THE ACADEMY

  1. Use Jiu-Jitsu skills only for self-defense: Teach your child that Jiu-Jitsu skills are meant to be used as a last resort for self-defense only (after all other avenues to stop the bullying have failed), and not for aggressive behavior or to intimidate others.
  2. Use Jiu-Jitsu skills to help others: Teach your child to use Jiu-Jitsu skills to help others who may be in need of assistance, such as defending a friend from bullying or helping someone who is being attacked.
  3. Don't show off: Discourage your child from showing off their Jiu-Jitsu skills outside of the gym, as this can lead to attention-seeking behavior and potentially dangerous situations, we have heard of incidents were kids have been SUSPENDED for showing off their jiu-jitsu technqiues in a jovial manner to their friends at school.
  4. Communicate with instructors: Encourage your child to communicate with their instructors if they are ever unsure about when and how to use their Jiu-Jitsu skills, and to always ask for permission before demonstrating their skills to others.

By emphasizing these rules, you can help ensure that your child develops a responsible and safe approach to using Jiu-Jitsu skills both inside and outside of the gym.

  2.  February 23, 2026 (Monday)
  3.  June 8, 2026 (Monday)
  4.  September 14, 2026 (Monday)
  5.  December 14, 2026 (Monday)

• THE KIDS BELT SYSTEM

- Kids have additional belts and stripes compared ot adults, or help keep them motivated as they grow and learn.

- Once they turn 16 years old, they transition into the adult belt system (white, blue, purple, brown, black).

• GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Promotion is not automatic. tI is based on attendance, effort, and the coach's evaluation.

1. Attendance Requirement

A student must have a minimum of 18 classes attended between graduations. Without 18 attendances, the student will wait until the next graduation cycle.

2. Coach's Evaluation

Meeting attendance is the first step.

The head coach will evaluate the student's progress, focus, attitude, and readiness. Even fi the student has the minimum classes, the final decision is made by the coach to

ensure the timing is right for the child's development.

• WHY EVERY CHILD SHOULD ATTEND THE GRADUATION

Graduation is more than receiving a new belt — its about team spirit and community. Even fa child is not getting promoted this time, i is very important that they attend the ceremony. Being present allows them to support and cheer for their teammates and friends Who are being promoted.

At Kimura BJJ Winnipeg, we believe the team is always more important than the individual. ‘One day, when i's their turn to be promoted, they will want their teammates by their side, celebrating and cheering for them too. “This teaches kids the fife skill of respect, encouragement, and unity — celebrating others’ success as much as their own.

• IMPORTANT NOTES FOR PARENTS

Please encourage your child to attend classes regularly — consistency is the key to progress. Belt promotions are a way to celebrate commitment and growth, not just skill level. If your child is not promoted this time, reassure them — their effort is never wasted. They will be eligible again in the next graduation.
